A mathematical model of scheduling the loading and unloading of freight shipping

Abstract
Transportation is in general a very important branch of the economy and moreover is in the center of operational research and management sciences. Managing ports is a strategic matter for the development of the economy. The port activities influence directly the economy of the region where the port is located. Nowadays, in the global economy the most commonly used form of transportation is by water. Around 90% of the total goods imported or exported from a country are transported via maritime transportation. The process of scheduling the loading/unloading of freight shipping consists in determining the time and place at which a ship will be anchored. In general terms, the activity that we take into account is the service of clientele in which three phases are distinguished: reception and disposition of the clients, performing the base service, doing the follow up and the respective procedures.
